Gouda City tour with guide Jan
The historic city of Gouda is known for the Gothic town hall, the stained glass windows in the Sint Jan church, the cheese and the stroopwafels.
During a city walk, your guide will tell you about the history of this important trading city.
Expression “Gouda Cheese”
Gouda cheese or Goeda Cheese as the Americans call it is cheese that is produced in the area around Gouda. The cheese is named after the market place Gouda where the trade took place. No cheese is made in Gouda itself. Strange that there is no Alkmaar cheese, while that is the best known cheese market. People of Gouda are called cheese heads because of the custom to use the wooden cheese molds as a helmet in times of need.
