Rotterdam is now the second largest city in the country, with 623,000 inhabitants. In the 19th century the original small fishing village on the river Rotte developed into a huge harbor. Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and the 8th port in the world, located on the Nieuwe Maas, the confluence of the rivers Maas and Rijn. The North Sea is 30 km away. Maritime shipping and river traffic come together here.

World War II 

At the beginning of WW II, on May 10th 1940, Rotterdam was bombed by Nazi Germany and the city center was completely destroyed. Reconstruction after WW II offered the opportunity to implement innovations and introduce unusual architecture. The multi-cultural town is versatile and lively, the museums exhibit interesting art collections.

EXCURSION Rotterdam Surrounded by Water

During this excursion you will participate in activities associated with water. You can even walk underwater in Rotterdam! You view the oldest port, take a water-taxi to the SS Rotterdam and then sail back to the city. Your guide will flood you with water facts and figures.

EXCURSION Manhattan at the river Maas modern architecture

Rotterdam is the place to be considerinng modern architecture. With specialties as the Lijnbaan, the Cubic houses,  Centraal train Station, Markthal the ship De Rotterdam. Van Nelle fabriek (UNESCO Wereld Erfgoed).

We start at Centraal Station in Rotterdam. We see het Groot Handelsgebouw and walk into the city. We see the Cubic houses and Markthal and cross the water by watertaxi to de Kop van Zuid. This excursion can also be done in the evening
