The Hague as a city
The city of Den Haag has 560,000 inhabitants. Making it the third largest city in the country, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. It is the capital of the province of Zuid-Holland. Den Haag is home to the Dutch government and Houses of Parliament. Also many foreign embassies are located here. And not to forget the International Court of Justice is here from 1913 on.
Den Haag is a coastal town, an elegant landscaped city in a 19th century setting.
EXCURSION Architecture the Old and the New
City Tour Surprising Den Haag
The starting point of this excursion is the updated hall of The Hague Central Station. During our walk through the city you will see 21st century high-rise buildings. These modern buildings are alternated with mediaeval gouvernment buildings on Binnenhof. The 20th century town hall was a revolutionary design for that time.
We will also saunter through the famous 19th century “Passage” and the elegant shopping streets.

EXCURSION Peace and Justice
We start our excursion on the Square and walk from there to the Ridderzaal, which is located in the middle of the Binnenhof, where we find the parliament buildings. The first Peace Conference was in 1898. Queen Wilhelmina was the hostess. Then it was also decided that a peace palace a building should be established. We walk from the Ridderzaal to Noordeinde Palace where it is explained how the monarchy fits into the Dutch system. From there we walk to the Peace Palace to hear how and why it came to the Netherlands. We visit the Information Center, where we hear exactly what the organization is doing on the world stage. Then we pass the embassy district and end at the building of the Yugoslavia tribunal and hear the Dutch Sebrenica story.
